Over my 26 years as a journalist in Las Vegas, I've seen a ton of talented new bands hit the scene. Some make it, and some don't. Why, may you ask? Many times, these newcomers to the music scene have the talent to make the grade but fail to get the word out to the public about their existence.
Las Vegas is full of talent! For up-and-coming bands, breaking through in a city that books both tribute acts, and international icons is no easy feat!
Yet with the right strategy, even a garage band can grow into a Strip-worthy act. From smart networking to owning the stage at local clubs and bars, here are a few tips on how Las Vegas bands can rise above the noise and get noticed.
Play the Right Venues
-
Start with local bars and clubs that showcase live music:
Count’s Vamp’d, Backstage Bar & Billiards, Sand Dollar Lounge, The Bonfire LV
-
Move into casino lounges and hotel bars (many are open to tight cover sets or themed acts)
-
Residencies (even short-term ones) can dramatically boost exposure
Strong Online Presence
-
Maintain active profiles on:
-
Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube (short clips from gigs perform well)
-
Facebook Events & Local Groups to promote shows
-
-
Use SEO optimization on your band's website.
A Professional press kit for your band is a Must!
High-Quality Media
-
Invest in professional live video and photos to pitch to venues and promoters
-
Create a tight promo reel (1–2 min) highlighting crowd energy and performance quality
Network Locally
-
Attend local music nights even when not performing
-
Collaborate with other bands, especially on multi-band bills or themed nights
-
Join groups like Vegas Rock Scene & Vegas Music Scene on Facebook
Get on Local Media
-
Submit music to:
-
91.5 FM (Jazz/Local Music)
-
Real 103.9 or KOMP 92.3 for rock
-
Online outlets like Vegas Rocks Magazine, Las Vegas Weekly, and the Vegas-Insider.
Build a Press Kit (EPK)
-
Include:
-
Bio, photos, live video, sample tracks, previous venues played, and contact info
-
-
Send it regularly to venues and booking agents.
Niche Down or Go Themed
-
Vegas rewards distinct identity: tributes, 80s-night bands, “vintage Vegas,” or genre-specific acts often do better than generic originals
-
Develop a stage look and sound that sets your band apart from the others.
