What Are Musicians Endorsements And What Types Of Endorsements Are There?

 A few weeks ago, I attended the Las Vegas Drum Show at the Tuscany Hotel.

As I walked by the exhibit booths, I overheard conversations about the drums, gear, and accessories, as well as discussions about endorsement deals.

Most musicians are aware of what endorsements are and how they can benefit from having them.

For today.

I'll be talking mostly to the fans (And new artists to the music industry) about what endorsement deals are and what types of endorsements exist.

What is a musician endorsement?

A musician endorsement is a mutually beneficial partnership between an artist and a brand—usually a company that makes musical instruments, gear, or accessories.

In this relationship:

The musician publicly supports or promotes the brand, often by using their products in live performances, studio recordings, and on social media.

In turn, the brand supports the musician by providing gear at a discount, for free, or even with financial compensation. They might also offer promotional opportunities (like featuring the artist on their website or social media).

{My Take}

It’s not just about “free gear”—brands expect visibility, credibility, and influence in return. They’re investing in artists who can help them reach more customers.

Types Of Musicians' Endorsement Deals

Here is a breakdown of the different types of musician endorsements, from entry-level to top-tier Rock Star status.

Affiliate/Influencer Partnerships

Who it’s for: Musicians with a decent online following or niche influence.

What you get: Discount codes, affiliate links (you earn commission), sometimes free gear for content creation.

What you do: Promote products on social media, YouTube, or livestreams.

Product Endorsements (Entry-Level or Partial)

Who it’s for: Gigging musicians, small touring acts, music educators, or content creators with consistent engagement.

What you get: Discounted gear (artist pricing), early access to new products.

What you do: Use the gear publicly, tag the brand, maybe appear in company promos or online features.

Full Artist Endorsements

Who it’s for: Professional musicians, touring artists, or those with a strong regional/national following.

What you get: Free gear, sometimes custom equipment, and possible promotion on brand platforms.

What you do: Represent the brand exclusively in that category (e.g., only play their guitars or use their amps), be featured in marketing, and maintain visibility.

Signature Deals

Who it’s for: Established artists with major name recognition.

What you get: Custom gear designed with or for you (e.g., signature guitar, pedal, drumsticks), royalties on sales.

What you do: Collaborate in product design, help promote the gear heavily, and represent the brand at events or in media.

Sponsorships

Who it’s for: Artists with massive exposure (tours, big online presence, mainstream media).

What you get: Financial backing, tour support, heavy promotion, exclusive contracts.

What you do: Act as a brand ambassador, sometimes appearing in ads, events, or performing at brand-sponsored events.

{My Take}

Endorsements are not the same as sponsorships.
Endorsements usually involve gear, while sponsorships often involve money.

Endorsements and sponsorships can be game-changing for musicians—but they’re not just about free gear or bragging rights. These partnerships thrive on authenticity, professionalism, and mutual value. Whether you're just starting to build your brand or you're ready to pitch to major companies, focus on creating real relationships, being active in your scene, and consistently showing why you’re worth the investment.

Remember, the best endorsement deals come when you’re already endorsing the product naturally. Stay true to your sound, your style, and your journey—and the right brands will take notice.
