Saturday night, my wife and I headed to Arizona Charlie's on North Decatur to meet up with a group of friends to catch Albumpalooza.
A Steve Miller Band / Doobie Brothers cover band. A band that I've never had the pleasure to have seen. One thing that I knew at the time was I really dig both of the real bands and their music!
When we arrived inside the lounge. I talked to the entertainment director and some of the hotel staff that I knew for a few moments, then headed to the stage to catch up with the band before they hit the stage for their performance. Boy, was I surprised. From behind the curtains out walks my longtime friend, Jonathan Gilcrest. One of the most talented musicians in the business! We exchange greetings. Then he heads backstage to get ready for the show.
About The Show:
Over 90 minutes of the best Steve Miller and Doobie Brothers rolled into one show. Wow!
Songs included Jet Airliner, Swingtown, Take The Money And Run, Jungle Love, Long Train Running, China Grove, and Fly Like An Eagle, and many more.
I usually don't go that deep when reviewing a band. But I will say that Albumpalooza is an Awesome band to both see and to listen to. All members are "Top Shelf" talent! We will definitely be seeing them again!
Albumpalooza brought back some really cool memories from my past.
Besides being an awesome night of music. Saturday night was a personal "Full Circle" night for me as a ghostwriter. In the 70's (1970's). Two of the bands that I was assigned to write a review on were The Doobie Brothers (1975) and The Steve Miller Band in 1978.
About my History Making Night:
It took 47 years in the media biz as a ghostwriter to be able to say that I've written about the Steve Miller and the Doobie Brothers bands. Both the real bands and their cover band version!
That's pretty cool if you ask me ....
