The Story Behind Chasing Light Winning Battle Of The Bands At The Bonfire Las Vegas

With only a few months of performing together. Chasing Light is already getting noticed.

This week, Chasing Light Won The Battle Of The Bands contest at the Bonfire Las Vegas.

They also caught this journalist attention.

For many reasons I might add.

Here's the story.

Earlier this year, I wrote a "Behind The Scenes" article about what goes on in a band's closed-door practice session. Something fans don't get to see. The featured band in my article was "Sex To Love". That's when I met Nico Hayek (lead Guitarist For Sex To Love) and got to witness this young man's musical talent.

I've been keeping up with the Battle Of The Bands contest for a couple of weeks on Facebook. I really believe that these contests are good for the music industry and help young and new talent in the industry to get the exposure that they much deserve!

The next morning after the Battle Of The Bands finale. I opened up Facebook to find out that Chasing Light was the winner of the Battle Of The Bands finale the night before. As I read on I found out that Nico Hayek and Helena Harris was two members of the band. What a coincidence. I already know the musical talent that Nico possesses from meeting him a few months back. But to find out that I've already got to see Helena Harris and witness her amazing music talent on stage a few months back also at the Bonfire. Like wow!

Helena and Nico remind me of me. I found my passion for writing still in my teens. Much like Helena (Now 18) and Nico (Now 19) have both found their amazing musical niche in life.

To find out what your niche in life is while still in your teens is awesome!

And to excel in your niche is a blessing!

I compare Helena and Nico to Karen & Richard Carpenter. (Age & Musical Talent)

Besides Chasing Light's awesome talent on stage. Their social media presence is The Bomb!

Thanks to Helena's dad Larry Harris. Which handles his daughter's media and PR, along with Chasing Light's social media and internet presence.

One thing that separates really good bands from the rest of the pack is how and where they're being seen.

As a band, you've got to keep fresh in all of your fan's minds. That's what Larry is really good at!

It's one thing in the business that I call one of the "It Factors"!

Yes, Chasing Light is "Doing Everything Right"

Their amazing talent on stage, with a Marketing and PR Guru (Helena's Dad), and a strong support system that Helena and Nico both have with their parents actively involved.

I see a very bright future for the both of them!

By the way. Congratulations For Winning Battle Of The Bands!

Check out the links below to find out more about Helena and Nico, and about their amazing band.

And The Bonfire LV. Their food and refreshments are deliciously Awesome. And their entertainment lineup, stage and sound system are Bad A$$ too! I Love This Bar!

Vegas Slot Machines What Are The Odds?

On my way to the poker room, I stopped by the penny machines and this happened.

Nine hundred bucks. Nice hit I thought to myself. Now I'm playing on the casino's money.

By the way. I never made it to the card tables. I took the money and ran.

Wouldn't it be nice to see this more often!

What Are The Odds Of Hitting A Bonus Or A Jackpot On Slot Machines?

The odds of hitting a bonus or jackpot on a slot machine depend on several factors, including the machine’s Return to Player (RTP) percentage, volatility, and random number generator (RNG) settings. Here's how I see it.

Odds of Hitting a Bonus Round

Many modern slots have bonus rounds triggered by landing specific symbols (e.g., three scatters).

The odds vary, but generally, bonus features hit every 50 to 200 spins on average.

High-volatility slots may have rarer but bigger bonus wins, while low-volatility slots hit bonuses more frequently with smaller payouts.

Odds of Hitting a Jackpot

Fixed Jackpots (set prize amounts) generally have better odds than progressive jackpots.

Progressive Jackpots (which grow over time) can have astronomical odds—often 1 in 10 million or more for major prizes like Megabucks or Wheel of Fortune.

Some machines require max bet to qualify for the top jackpot.

RTP & House Edge

RTP (Return to Player) is the long-term payout percentage (e.g., 96% RTP means the machine returns $96 for every $100 wagered over time).

A lower RTP means worse odds of hitting significant wins.

Slot Myths vs. Reality

MYTH: "Hot" and "Cold" machines exist.

REALITY: RNG ensures every spin is independent—previous spins don’t influence future ones.

MYTH: Playing at a certain time increases chances of winning.

REALITY: Jackpots and bonuses are randomly determined.

Best Strategies for Better Odds

Play higher RTP slots (above 96%).

Check the game’s volatility (low for frequent small wins, high for bigger but rarer wins).

Bet wisely—some games require max bet for jackpot eligibility.

Set a budget and stick to it—slots are for entertainment, not a guaranteed win.

As for me, I'll take Luck over Skill when it comes to winning at slot machines!

Las Vegas Kings Set For Their Season Opener And A Fans Guide To Arena Football

What an awesome weekend of football. Not the NFL version of outdoor football! But the fast-paced version of professional arena football. I spent the entire weekend at the Las Vegas Kings Training Camp as they prepared for the upcoming 2025 Arena League Season.

I've been writing and taking photos with the Las Vegas Kings organization since their inception in 2016.

By the looks of what I saw this past weekend in training camp. Led by Head Coach Chris Wallace

The Kings will be fielding a fast-paced offense, along with a crushing defense that will turn heads in arena football this year!

"To this journalist. This year's Kings are bigger, faster, stronger, and meaner than ever"

GE

In my blog this past Saturday, I talked about The Kings gearing up and making preparations for their scrimmage against the Arizona Bandits in Phoenix Arizona this upcoming Sunday. < Read Blog Here >

Many times, in my sports articles and blogs. I'm asked numerous questions about the game of Arena Football.

Here's my fan's guide to Arena Football.

(Rules may vary across different leagues)

To me, Arena football is a faster-paced, more high-scoring version of American football played indoors on a smaller field. It has unique rules and strategies that differentiate it from traditional outdoor football.

Field Size: 50 yards long with 8-yard end zones, about half the size of an outdoor field.

Team Size: 8 players per side (compared to 11 in outdoor football).

Scoring: Similar to standard football—touchdowns (6 points), extra points (1 or 2 points), field goals (3 points), and safeties (2 points).

Kickoffs: The ball is kicked from the goal line instead of the 35-yard line. Rebounds off the nets are live.

Motion Rules: One receiver can move toward the line of scrimmage before the snap (unlike outdoor football, where motion is restricted).

Walls & Nets: The field is surrounded by dasher boards (like hockey), and kicks can rebound off end-zone nets, making the game more unpredictable.

Downs: 4 downs to advance 10 yards, similar to traditional football.

Overtime: Usually one possession per team, with a chance to match or outscore the opponent.

Pass-heavy Offense: Due to the small field, teams rely on quick passes and deep shots.

High Scores: Games often have scores in the 50s or 60s.

Closer fan experience due to small arenas.

Opportunities for players to develop and move to higher leagues.

There you have it. My fast-paced Fans Guide to Arena Football.

What Are The Skill Levels In Being A Musician?

I've always said that if you're a paid musician living in Las Vegas, you've got to be good!

But are all musicians created equal?

The skill levels of being a musician can generally be categorized into different stages based on technical ability, musical knowledge, and experience.

1st The Beginner

Learning basic techniques (e.g., how to hold an instrument, fundamental chords, basic rhythms).

Limited knowledge of music theory.

Can play simple songs but may struggle with timing and consistency.

Requires guidance from a teacher or instructional material.

Intermediate

More comfortable with the instrument and has developed muscle memory.

Can play more complex pieces and maintain a steady rhythm.

Starts understanding scales, chord progressions, and key signatures.

May begin improvising and writing simple songs.

Can play with other musicians in a basic setting (e.g., jam sessions, school bands).

Advanced

Highly developed technical skills and a deeper understanding of music theory.

Can play difficult compositions and improvise confidently.

Able to read music fluently (if applicable) and transcribe songs by ear.

May perform in professional settings, such as bands, orchestras, or solo gigs.

Can experiment with different genres and develop a unique style.

Professional

Master's complex techniques and can perform consistently under various conditions.

Strong theoretical knowledge, including advanced harmony and composition.

Can play multiple instruments or specialize deeply in one.

Performs, records, and teaches music professionally.

Can adapt quickly to different musical situations and collaborate with other musicians effortlessly.

Virtuoso (Elite/Legendary Level) - ROCK STAR!!

Extraordinary technical ability, expressiveness, and innovation.

Influences other musicians and pushes musical boundaries.

Recognized as a master in their genre (e.g., Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Jimi Hendrix).

Has a unique style that is difficult for others to replicate.

Often composes groundbreaking music or develops new techniques.

To all of my musician friends.
Where do you see yourself in this progression?

Las Vegas' Yellow Brick Road Band Still Going Strong After 28 Years

Saturday night, the Mrs. and I along with a group of our friends headed to Club Madrid inside the Sunset Station Hotel Casino to celebrate my sister's birthday. Hosting the entertainment for the night was one of the longest-running, most successful cover bands in the world, Yellow Brick Road.

{About The Band}

Yellow Brick Road is a hugely successful premier classic rock cover band based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Founded in 1997 by lead vocalist Brody Dolyniuk, the band originally started as an Elton John tribute act—hence the name "Yellow Brick Road." Over time, they expanded their repertoire to include a wide range of classic rock hits from the '70s and '80s, covering artists such as Led Zeppelin, Rush, Van Halen, Boston, Queen, The Who, and Aerosmith.

The band's commitment to precise, note-for-note recreations of rock anthems has earned them a dedicated following. They have been a staple in the Las Vegas music scene, performing weekly shows now for over 28 years, and still going strong!

Current Members Of Yellow Brick Road (From Left To Right)

David St. John - On Bass

James Sloan - (Filling In For Corky Gainsford) On Drums

Kelly Christian - On Lead Vocals

Mark Cole - On Lead Guitar

The birthday party for my sister was awesome. The dance floor was full. The showroom was packed! The drinks and the birthday cake were refreshing and delicious. And Yellow Brick Road was an awesome host!

I did get the chance to ask David, James, Kelly, and Mark what they owed Yellow Brick Road's amazing success and longevity to?

Each member of the band pretty much said the same thing.

"It's All In The Music"

See for yourself. This band is awesome!

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class Of 2025 Nominees Announced And Their History In Las Vegas

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 14 nominees for the class of 2025. This year's list features a diverse array of musical artists spanning many different genres and eras.

Notably, eight of these artists are first-time nominees: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, OutKast, and Phish.

Maná's nomination is particularly historic, as they are the first Spanish-language band to be considered for induction.

To be eligible for nomination, artists or bands must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior. The final list of inductees will be determined by an international voting panel of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. The selection criteria include an artist's impact on music culture, influence on other musicians, and the longevity and depth of their career.

The inductees will be announced in late April 2025, with the induction ceremony scheduled to take place in Los Angeles in the fall. Fans also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process through the Rock Hall's Fan Vote, which is open until April 21, 2025.

< Fans Vote Here >

Not All Casino Games Are Created Equal !

When it comes to casino games, the house edge determines the odds of winning.

The higher the house edge, the worse the odds are for the player.

House Edge Explained < Here >

Here is how casino games stack up when it comes to the casino's edge versus the player's money.

Slot Machines

House Edge: 2% to 15% (sometimes higher)

Why It’s Bad: While slots are fun and flashy, they often have the worst odds, especially in high-traffic tourist areas like Las Vegas. The payouts vary wildly depending on the machine. Some are just Not worth the risks!

 Keno

House Edge: 20% to 40%

Why It’s Bad: This lottery-style game has some of the worst odds in the casino. The chance of hitting all numbers on a typical Keno ticket is astronomically low. It's a slow-moving game that's good for taking advantage of the casino's free drinks.

Big Six Wheel (Money Wheel)

House Edge: 11% to 24%

Why It’s Bad: The simplicity of this game hides its poor odds. The bets with the highest payouts have the worst probabilities.

American Roulette

House Edge: 5.26%

Why It’s Bad: The double zero (00) adds to the house edge compared to European Roulette, which has just a single zero and a house edge of 2.7%.

Craps (Proposition Bets)

House Edge: 5% to 16% (on certain bets)

Why It’s Bad: While the main bets like "Pass Line" have good odds, side bets like "Any 7" are terrible for players.

Games with Better Odds (If You’re Curious):

Blackjack: 0.5% (with perfect strategy)

Baccarat (Banker Bet): 1.06%

Craps (Pass Line with Odds): <1%

Poker has some of the best odds of winning. But it's really not considered a casino game because you're playing against other players and not the house (Casino).

Are you a gambler or are you an investor?

Either Way, Good Luck At The Casino!

Which Casino Games Can Be Played Professionally

Welcome to my blog.

I've been co-writing slash/ghostwriting articles about Las Vegas since moving to Sin City in 1999.

Sports, entertainment, music, events, shows, celebrities, and gambling. Pretty much everything that Las Vegas has to offer!

If you know me. You know that I'm heavy into the gambling scene in Las Vegas.

Over my 26 years living here, I've experienced pretty much every aspect of gambling life, including lessons from pro gamblers and pro poker players. I've covered blackjack, poker, and slot tournaments. I've covered and played in the World Series of Poker. I've interviewed the top professionals in many of the games that Las Vegas has to offer. And the slot machines in Vegas have been a learning experience for me.

Over the years, I've written many articles about these games and a blog or two (Or A Hundred) about which games have the best odds of winning and which games someone could make a living at playing.

Today's blog is about which casino games can be played professionally (To Make A Living At)

Several casino games can be played professionally, meaning skilled players can gain an edge over the house or other players. Enough edge to make a living at playing them.

Here are my top 5 games that you can cash in on if you have the edge.

Poker.

Poker is played against other players, not the house, making it one of the best games for professional play. Skilled players can consistently profit by making mathematically sound decisions, reading opponents, and exploiting weaknesses.

Blackjack (Card Counting)

Using card counting, shuffle tracking, and advantage play techniques, skilled players can gain a small but consistent edge over the casino (usually 0.5%–1.5%). However, casinos actively monitor and ban card counters.

Sports Betting (Arbitrage & Handicapping)

Professional bettors (or "sharps") analyze statistics, betting lines, and trends to find +EV (expected value) bets. Some use arbitrage betting to guarantee profit by wagering on different odds across multiple sportsbooks.

Video Poker (Perfect Strategy & Promotions)

Certain video poker variations, such as "9/6 Jacks or Better," offer over 99% return with perfect strategy. When combined with casino comps and promotions, players can turn a small profit.

Craps (Controlled Shooting – Highly Controversial)

Some claim to have mastered controlled dice shooting (also called dice setting) to influence the outcome slightly. While debated, a few players have profited this way.

Other Games.

Add Baccarat to this list of casino games that it's possible to make a living at. There's really no strategy or skill involved. And with some of the best odds in the casino. Many players make money with this game.
Also, Slot Machines, if you have nerves of steel and a big enough bankroll.

In my opinion. Poker, Blackjack, and Craps rule!

While poker and blackjack are the most viable long-term options, the other games can also be profitable under the right circumstances.

Good Luck!
